Portable has been recently introduced as a powerful new way to combine document editing with its ability to run right out of the USB drive, the company has been forced to terminate the service due to lack of usage.
Although it was a free service, the company had collected tens of millions of dollars in advertising and subscription fees from the users.
The termination of the service came after three years of positive feedback from users.
What was unique about this service was that it allowed users to edit PDFs on their portable and shared them via Google Drive.
This means that the documents are always on the go. For example, while walking between desks, you can open a file on your iPad and send it to the other employee with whom you work on a daily basis.
But the service had not been used as much as they expected.
"We built a document editing and sharing tool for consumers, but just weren't as successful as we had hoped," said Jon Vogel, founder of Portable, in a statement.
"There are so many other tools that are just as good for professional users, but none as simple or flexible for the everyday mobile professional."
Users who had registered to the service will be able to download the files they had edited as well as documents that they had shared before the service's shut-down.
This service has been in existence for almost three years and it has been used by over 35,000 users.
